Churchill, Sir Winston and RAF Hero Group Captain Douglas Bader - Signed Battle of Britain Dinner Program. Dinner menu for a Battle of Britain Seventeenth Anniversary Dinner held at the Royal Hiberian Hotel, Dublin, Sept. 14, 1957, signed "Winston S. Churchill" on the Appreciation page, which has two quotations from Churchill during the war. Also signed by Douglas Bader, an extraordinary RAF hero who was the guest of honor at the banquet. Partly-printed document Signed "Vittorio Emanuele" as King of Italy and Emperor of Ethiopia and by "Mussolini," whose title was prime minister but who was, in effect, dictator of Italy, one page, large folio, Rome, May 11, 1936. Also dated "XIV," the 14th year since Mussolini came into power (1922). Promoting Giovanni Bruno, a sub-lieutenant of the School of Nautical Services, to the rank of lieutenant. Pico, Pio de Jesus - Last Mexican Governor of Alta California (1801-1894) Californio rancher and politician of African, Indian, and Spanish ancestry, the last governor of Alta California under Mexican rule. He served from 1845 to 1846, just before the U.S. military occupation. Autograph letter signed "Pio Pico," one page, on ruled 10 x 7¾" paper, Los Angeles, Dec. 12, 1871. To his nephew, Jose Maria, in Spanish, telling him to ask for the money to pay the taxes, to see if he can sign for his uncle for another sum, and to see if he can collect what he is sending him. He sends greetings to his sister and says that he is leaving for San Bernardino. Normal folds and a small spot, else fine. With English translation. Housed in a moss-green holder with marbled boards. Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles is a major thoroughfare and the name "Pico" can be seen numerous places in southern California. Estimate Value $250 - UP

Trotsky, Leon - 1933 TLS Mentioning the International Left Opposition (1879-1940) Russian communist and revolutionary leader. At odds with Stalin following Lenin's death, he was exiled and later assassinated in Mexico on Stalin's orders. Typed letter signed "L. Trotsky," one page, 10¾ x 8 ¼", in English, Buyukada (Turkey), May 30, 1933. To author/journalist John Gunther, thanking him for a copy of Harper's Magazine with an article by Gunther "which shows your sympathetic interest in my personal work and in the activity of the International Left Opposition….If you should happen to have the recent issue of Current History with the review of my History of the Russian Revolution by Professor Bernadsky, I would appreciate it if you were to send it to me for a few days….What is your opinion about the situation in Austria?…."
